Job Summary

The Senior Specialist of Electrical Equipment Production Design and Development will lead and support research, design, and technical development initiatives related to the local production and optimization of electrical equipment used in DABS operations, including transformers, switchgear, meters, insulators, protection systems, and control equipment. The position focuses on designing efficient production processes, improving existing equipment designs, and identifying innovative technologies to modernize DABS’s technical assets and reduce dependency on imports

Duties & Responsibilities

• Support Conduct comprehensive studies on existing electrical equipment used by DABS, focusing on structure, performance, failure rates, and maintenance costs
• Evaluate current production mechanisms, both domestic and international, for electrical equipment like transformers, circuit breakers, panels, cables and more
• Benchmark international standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI) for equipment production and ensure alignment with DABS quality and safety requirements
• Contribute to or lead the design and re-engineering of selected electrical equipment with an emphasis on
• The creation of technical specifications and engineering drawings using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other CAD tools
• Assist in creating prototypes and coordinating with local manufacturing partners for pilot production runs
• Identify inefficiencies in the current sourcing or production of electrical equipment and propose innovative solutions for local production or hybrid assembly
• Analyze manufacturing workflows for bottlenecks, quality issues, or over engineering, and design lean production strategies
• Recommend modernization of workshop tools, techniques, and quality control systems where applicable
• Ensure equipment designs meet operational needs
• Align R&D outputs with field usage conditions and feedback
• Provide technical advice and support to local manufacturers and fabricators partnering with DABS.
• Develop test protocols and perform technical validation of newly developed or redesigned equipment.
• Support the installation, monitoring, and performance evaluation of pilot installations of newly developed products
• Compile failure analysis reports and propose design adjustments based on field data
• Support the R&D team in preparing reports, presentations, and proposals for higher management or funding agencies
• Assist in designing, building, and testing prototypes for new equipment or system upgrades
• Provide technical assistance during pilot implementations or trials
• Engage with suppliers and technical partners for knowledge transfer
• Prepare detailed technical reports, feasibility studies, and presentations for senior management

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Power Engineering
• Minimum 4 years of experience in power systems research or technical development roles
• Expertise in SCADA, power electronics, and smart grid technologies
• Proficient in engineering software and simulation platforms
• Excellent coordination and project documentation skills
• Strong communication skills in English and national languages
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
• High attention to detail and technical accuracy
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Good communication and presentation skills
• Strong commitment to continuous learning and innovation
